One day before los Rojinegros return to the field in the preseason tournament "Copa GNP por Mexico," a virtual press conference was held to formally introduce four new additions to the team before the season officially gets underway.
Atlas FC President Pedro Portilla and head coach Rafael Puente opened by sharing their comments on each one of the incorporations as the team looks to fine tune details and return to official competition.
"We're very pleased, very motivated, said Portilla. "I think we've achieved the objectives that we set out to complete: first of all, giving continuity to the majority of the group that was with us in the previous season; second, we've incorporated key positions that we needed according to our sporting intelligence; and third, to be able to give continuity to our youth players formed in house."
The four players, added Puente, will complement what was described as a majority of the roster from the previous season as well as players from the club's youth academy.
"There's a healthy internal competition that exists in each position, which will help us to be able to transcend as a team," he said.
Here's what each had to say about the newest additions to our team:
PP: We've welcomed Edyairth Ortega back to the club, who was on loan in Tampico and had a very good season with la Jaiba Brava. He has returned to solidify the midfield. He came to the club when he was 10 years old, so he's really welcoming us."
RP: "Ortega came to add value to the important dynamic that we have with this current squad on the field."
PP: "It was really important for us that we solidify the left wing and he's a player with a great capacity."
RP: "Escobar has an important experience in the Ascenso MX and always as a regular figure ... and he deserves this opportunity."
PP: "He's confirmed his capacity in the two teams he's played with already in Mexico and what he's done in other countries."
RP: "A very good lefty who tactically knows how to play in a variety of positions. He can play inside, outside ... we're very happy with his arrival."
PP: "His characteristics are difficult to find in soccer. The player was looking for a second chance and he will find that opportunity in Atlas. We are going to work very closely with him and we will accompany him to be able to comply with the commitments he has in courses he has to take. He will become one of us like any and all players.
Ibarra will also have the opportunity to work in the community with the club's social responsibility program "Valor Rojinegro," offering service to those who need it most in his new home."
RP: "Renato is the player most determined in the league in terms of 1 vs. 1, and we were looking for that - to maximize our potential on the outside to supply the great center forwards that we have."
